Today, the Westbahn is the busiest railroad line in Austria; during the monarchy, it was of lesser importance after the Nordbahn and Südbahn lines. The Westbahn was built in the 1850s and named after Empress Elisabeth, one of the famous first travelers on the way to her parents' house in Bavaria.
Together with her husband Emperor Franz Joseph, Empress Elisabeth often traveled to the summer residence in Bad Ischl on the Westbahn. Special court trains were built for this purpose, which were pulled by the type 306 locomotive depicted on the coin. Court trains consisted of around eight carriages for the court employees, the train management or the chaplain and the personal physician, among others. There was also a dining wagon with a table for 16 people, a kitchen wagon and one for luggage. The other side of the coin shows the arrival of a train at Westbahnhof, the former Empress Elisabeth station, next to the statue of Empress Elisabeth, which still has a place at the station.
The coin is sold including a beautiful box and certificate of authenticity.
