Since 2008 you can also buy the famous Vienna Philharmonic in silver! The silver Philharmonic was the first European silver bullion coin to be launched on the market by Münze Österreich AG in 2008. The design corresponds to the Vienna Philharmonic Gold, which has been available since 1989.
The coin's design is influenced by its namesake, the famous Austrian orchestra. One side of the coin shows instruments of the Vienna Philharmonic: horn, bassoon, harp, cello, viola and violin. The second side of the coin depicts the organ from the Great Hall of the Musikverein. The face value of 1.50 euros stated underneath makes the coin legal tender. However, the commercial value is calculated from the price of silver and, as with the gold Philharmonic, the motif of the silver coin remains unchanged every year. In contrast to the gold coin, however, the silver Philharmonic has a smooth edge. The design of the motif on both coins was created by Thomas Pesendorfer.
The Vienna Philharmonic is one of the best-selling bullion coins in the world. In contrast to the gold coin, which is produced in various sizes, the silver Philharmonic is only available with a fine weight of one ounce.
Together with the silver Maple Leaf and the American Silver Eagle, the silver Vienna Philharmonic is one of the best-selling silver bullion coins.
