Silver price development and current rate

Our silver chart shows you the current silver prices in Euro and the development of the silver price over time. This silver spot reflects the current silver price on the international market. Silver has been traded on the major precious metal marketplaces for centuries. While the London silver fixing used to be the basis for silver trading, today the silver spot, which is updated every second and corresponds to the current exchange price, is used.

Silver prices in purchase & sale

If you want to buy silver in Austria or if you want to sell silver in the form of investment silver (silver coins & silver bars) or old silver (silver jewelry, silverware,...), the prices of the dealers are based on this general silver price.

However, even daily prices for silver coins, silver bars and scrap silver/broken silver differ both in silver buying and selling, because in addition to the silver price per troy ounce, production and manufacturing costs, as well as smelting and recycling costs must also be calculated into the prices.

Anyone who wants to buy physical silver must also bear in mind that investment silver, unlike investment gold, is subject to VAT. While gold is completely exempt from VAT in Austria and the EU, silver is subject to a special form of VAT: Differential taxation. Here, for goods for which VAT has already been paid once, the VAT to be paid is not applied to the total price, but only to the difference between the purchase and sales price of the goods, i.e. to the dealer's margin. However, it always depends on the particular silver product whether it can be sold subject to differential taxation.

The London world market price for silver

While silver derivatives and futures are mainly traded in New York, Chicago and Tokyo, the physical commodity silver is traded on the precious metal markets in London, New York and Zurich. The largest marketplace for silver bullion is undoubtedly London, where the world market price for silver - in U.S. dollars / ounce - is also determined daily on the London Bullion Market. In contrast to the gold market, there is no longer a silver fixing for the silver price, which determines the daily price of silver at a certain time. So the only orientation is the current silver spot. Because silver, like most other commodities, is traded in U.S. dollars, monetary policy naturally plays a major role, as it does with the price of gold. For us in Europe, the ratio of the U.S. dollar to the euro is, of course, the decisive factor.
