The American Eagle silver coin is a US silver coin that, like the American Eagle gold coin, has been minted by the US Mint since 1986 and is the first pure silver coin in the USA. The reason for its minting was the import ban on the South African Krugerrand due to the apartheid policy.

On the obverse of the coin is the classic motif of "Walking Liberty" by Adolph A. Weinman. After 35 years, this famous motif has now been refreshed. Thanks to technological advances in the design and minting process, the Liberty now includes some of Weinman's original details that were not previously possible. The new design on the obverse features an eagle landing and carrying an oak branch.
