"God Heals"

With the silver coin "Raphael - the healing angel" appeared on February 14, 2018, the third coin in the series "Angels - Heavenly Messengers" of the Austrian Mint.

The name Raphael (or also Rafael) comes from the Hebrew rafa'el and means "God heals" or "God has healed". In the Old Testament, he accompanies Tobias on his journey, points out to him the healing powers of the innards of a fish, and later heals Tobias's father Torbit. In Jewish tradition, Raphael is thus revered as an angel who possesses special healing powers. Therefore, his name often adorns amulets and talismans, which are supposed to protect their owners from diseases, restore health and vitality, and support the powers of self-healing. Archangel Raphael is the patron saint of pilgrims and travelers, he accompanies and comforts us and stands by us when we are ill.

The obverse of the 10 euro silver coin shows the angel Raphael as a youth with wavy hair and powerful wings of peacock feathers. In one hand a pilgrim's staff as an attribute, he holds the other hand raised in blessing. The design was based on a design for stained glass windows in the church of St. Michael and All Angels in Brighton, England in the style of the English School of the 19th century. On the side of the coin are the attributes of Raphael, a pilgrim's staff and a fish in front of the initial "R" for Raphael. This image is framed by arabesques, which are in the minting quality "Polished Plate/Proof" in the color green.
