In 2006 Austria honors the probably most important and most popular composer of Austria "Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart" with a 50 Euro commemorative coin made of gold (986/1000). The coin is the third and last issue of the official series "Great Composers".
The front view of the commemorative coin shows on the right side a portrait of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in a three-quarter view. On the left, receding slightly into the background, is father Leopold Mozart. The two portraits are based on contemporary paintings. The inscription "LEOPOLD WOLFGANG AMADEUS MOZART 1756-1791" completes the motif. The reverse shows a view of Getreidegasse in Salzburg. Mozart's birthplace can be seen to the left of center. The adjacent houses are shown in strong foreshortening perspective. The right side of the coin is flanked by a house facade. The filigree motif is framed by a circumscription.
