Series Klimt and his women

Make the acquaintance of Judith, with Gustav Klimt's "Judith II" from 1909, or more precisely, with the coin adorned with a detail from this painting. Make friends with the small, chubby sister of the dangerous biblical Judith. This coin is valuable because it lovingly and passionately refers to the epoch-making Art Nouveau style and the beginning of modernism, but especially because - like the other coins in the series - it pays tribute to one of the most exciting artists in history.

Craftsmanship plays a major role in Klimt's work, as it does in the art of minting coins. Here, as there, it is all about precision and a balanced composition. The obverse shows "Nuda Veritas", based on a final artwork for the magazine Ver Sacrum (1898). In this allegory, the "naked truth" is embodied by a woman wearing nothing but her long hair and holding up a mirror to herself: Know thyself!
