"The Expectation 2013 | 50 Euro | Gold Coin" noted for sale.
To the purchase basket
There are only a few artists who worked as intensively on the depiction of women as Gustav Klimt (1862 - 1918). As the second gold piece of the 50 euro series "Klimt and women" appears in the year of his 150th birthday "The expectation".
"The Expectation" is clearly inspired by Egyptian art and impressively shows how Klimt combines the best from past eras with completely new elements to create an original masterpiece. Klimt also repeatedly uses strong symbols such as the tree of life, which can also be seen on the coin.
The main design elements of both sides of the coin are taken from the Stoclet frieze. This wall decoration was a commission by Gustav Klimt for the house of the wealthy Stoclet banking family in Brussels, which was realized by the Wiener Werkstätten. While the palace is not open to the public, sketches of the frieze can be viewed at Vienna's Museum of Applied Arts (MAK).
