"The Expectation 2013 | 50 Euro | Gold coin" marked for sale.
To the purchase form
There are only a few artists who worked as intensively with the depiction of women as Gustav Klimt (1862 - 1918). The second golden piece in the 50-euro series "Klimt and Women" is "The Expectation" in the year of his 150th birthday.
"The Expectation" is clearly inspired by Egyptian art and impressively shows how Klimt combines the best of past eras with completely new elements to create an original masterpiece. Klimt also repeatedly uses strong symbols such as the tree of life, which can also be seen on the coin.
The main design elements on both sides of the coin are taken from the Stoclet frieze. This wall decoration was commissioned by Gustav Klimt for the house of the wealthy Stoclet family of bankers in Brussels and realized by the Wiener Werkstätten. While the palace is not open to the public, sketches of the frieze can be viewed at the Vienna Museum of Applied Arts (MAK).
