Clemens von Pirquet

Pirquet is one of the truly greats as an "all-rounder" in the field of medicine. He is considered the founder of allergy theory and was a pioneer in nutritional science. With the Pirquet sample named after him, he even developed a method for the early diagnosis of tuberculosis.

In the quartet of the "Great Physicians of Austria" Pirquet is probably the least known. Nevertheless, as an "all-rounder" in the field of medicine, he is one of the truly great ones. He is considered the founder of allergy theory and was a pioneer of nutritional science. With the Pirquet test named after him, he even developed a method for the early diagnosis of tuberculosis. However, he was not only involved in medicine but also in socio-politics. Pirquet always tried to make scientific findings accessible for practice and to implement them for the common good.
