To the purchase basket
The silver coin "Raphael - the Healing Angel", the third coin in the Austrian Mint's "Angels - Heavenly Messengers" series, was released on February 14, 2018.
The name Raphael (or Rafael) comes from the Hebrew rafa'el and means "God heals" or "God has healed". In the Old Testament, he accompanies Tobias on his journey, points out to him the healing powers of the innards of a fish and later heals Tobias' father Torbit. In Jewish tradition, Raphael is revered as an angel with special healing powers. This is why his name often adorns amulets and talismans, which are supposed to protect their owners from illness, restore their health and vitality and support the powers of self-healing. Archangel Raphael is the patron saint of pilgrims and travelers, he accompanies and comforts us and stands by us when we are ill.
The obverse of the 10 euro silver coin shows the angel Raphael as a youth with wavy hair and mighty wings of peacock feathers. He holds a pilgrim's staff as an attribute in one hand and raises his other hand in blessing. A design for stained glass windows in the church of St. Michael and All Angels in Brighton, England in the style of the English School of the 19th century served as a model. The value side features the attributes of Raphael, a pilgrim's staff and a fish in front of the initial "R" for Raphael. This image is framed by arabesques in the minting quality "proof" in the color green.
