"Crown of St. Stephen of Hungary 2010 | 100 Euro | Gold coin" marked for sale.
To the purchase basket
A showpiece of the "Crowns of the Habsburgs" series is the Crown of St. Stephen of Hungary. 16 grams of pure gold and the "Proof" minting quality make this piece particularly valuable. The face value is 100 euros and the mintage is limited to 30,000 pieces.
The crown of St. Stephen takes its name from the first Christian king of Hungary, who is also the country's national saint today. It is the majestic third coin in the popular "Crowns of the Habsburgs" series.
The depiction of the crown on the front with the characteristic crooked cross is wonderfully realized. This has been the source of much speculation over many centuries. Allegedly, the crown was damaged during a theft and the cross was bent in the process. However, the explanation that the cross was damaged by the heavy lid of the casket in which the crown was kept sounds more likely.
