The crown of the Holy Roman Empire

The crown of the Holy Roman Empire was one of the most coveted in Europe. Today it is kept in the Imperial Treasury of the Hofburg in Vienna . The 100 euro gold coin is also a treasure in its own right and, as the first coin in the five-part "Crowns of the Habsburgs" series, is particularly sought-after.

The obverse of the coin shows a three-quarter view of the crown. The second side depicts the coronation ceremony of Otto I in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome in 962. The crown remained in continuous possession of the Habsburgs for around 350 years. A success of clever diplomacy.

Like the other coins in this unique series, the crown of the Holy Roman Empire impresses with detailed engraving at the highest level. It tells the story of a period in world history that was characterized not only by politics but also by mysticism.
