The Crown of the Holy Roman Empire

The crown of the Holy Roman Empire was one of the most coveted in Europe. Today it is kept in the Imperial Treasury of the Hofburg Palace at Vienna . The 100 euro gold coin is also a treasure in its own right and, as the first coin in the five-part "Crowns of the Habsburgs" series, is particularly sought-after.

The obverse of the coin shows a three-quarter view of the crown. The second side depicts the coronation ceremony of Otto I in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome in 962. For about 350 years the crown remained in continuous possession of the Habsburgs. A success of clever diplomacy.

Like the other coins of the unique series, the Crown of the Holy Roman Empire impresses with detailed engraving art at the highest level. It tells a piece of world history, which was marked not only by politics, but also by mysticism.
