Birth of Christ

This Austrian commemorative coin commemorates 2000 years of Christianity and was produced by the Austrian Mint. On the occasion of this anniversary year, it was issued with the title 'Birth of Christ'. An accompanying certificate guarantees the authenticity of the gold coin; the coin is also recognized as legal tender in the Republic of Austria. On the obverse, it shows Jesus of Nazareth in a frontal view with outstretched arms. In his left hand he holds a book, three fingers of his raised right hand are outstretched. He wears a folded, wide robe with a decorated turn-down collar and his head is surrounded by a nimbus with a cross. This is the iconographically codified pose of Christ as ruler of the world.
