750 gold is the classic alloy for high-quality gold jewelry. Because pure gold is too soft as a material for jewelry production, it is always alloyed with other metals by the goldsmith. Unlike gold bars or investment gold coins, jewelry therefore always consists of an alloy, i.e. a mixture of different metals that are melted together. The added metals are intended to make the gold jewelry harder, more dimensionally stable and more scratch-resistant.
The proportion of pure gold in an alloy can be given in parts per thousand or in carats. Both units describe the same thing and can be converted accordingly. The fineness of 750‰ thousand parts corresponds to a carat number of 18 carats.
750 jewelry gold is available in a wide range of colors, for example as white gold, yellow gold or red gold, depending on which metal is used in the alloy, i.e. whether copper, silver or platinum is added. However, an 18 carat piece of jewelry always consists of 75.0% pure gold.
Check fineness: 750 gold = 18 carat
In gold jewelry, the fineness is usually embossed in the form of a hallmark. Such a hallmark can usually be found on the inside of rings, whereas chains or pendants are usually stamped on the clasp. The carat number, such as "18 kt." (more rarely also "18k" or "18c") as well as the fineness in parts per thousand, such as "750".
The acid test, also known as the line test, is used to check the correctness of the statement when buying gold. The gold piece to be tested is rubbed on a slate, which serves as a "touchstone", so that a clear line remains. Various test acids are then applied to this fine test line one after the other. There is a separate test acid for each alloy, i.e. one for 18 carat, one for 14 carat, etc., each consisting of a specific mixture of hydrochloric acid and nitric acid (aqua regia).
If the abrasion on the test stone becomes twisted or discolored, the alloy is below the tested fineness; if the line remains unchanged under the respective acid effect, the gold content corresponds to the respective carat activity.

Our prices for gold jewelry & silver
If you want to sell pieces made of colored gold alloys, you will receive the same price for all color facets. As the value of a piece depends on its fineness, it is irrelevant which metals have been alloyed. However, the gold content of 18 carat yellow gold is the same as that of 18 carat red or white gold, namely 75%. We therefore pay just as much for 18 carat yellow gold as for 18 carat red gold.
