To the purchase basket
The Isle of Man Platinum Noble was minted by the British Pobjoy Mint from 1983 to 1989. Thus, it is considered the first platinum bullion coin in the world. Because of its motif, the coin is also known as the "Viking Ship". The Isle of Man is an island in the Irish Sea. As an autonomous Crown Estate, it is directly under the British Crown, but not part of the United Kingdom.
The obverse of the coin shows a Viking ship, a so-called longship, with full sails on the high seas. Seagulls circle around the ship and below the motif are imprinted the details of the fine weight, the metal and the nominal value. The image is enclosed by a decorative circle in which the coat of arms of the Isle of Man is located at the top of the image. On the reverse of the coin is the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. As the head of state of the island, she bears the title "Lord of Man". The portrait of the Queen is framed by the words "Isle of Man" and "Elizabeth II". The year of minting can be seen at the bottom of the image.
