This Austrian commemorative coin commemorates 2000 years of Christianity and was produced by the Austrian Mint. On the occasion of this anniversary year, it was issued in 2002 with the title 'Order and The World'. An accompanying certificate guarantees the authenticity of the gold coin; in addition, the coin is also recognized as legal tender in the Republic of Austria.the commemorative coin shows Saint Benedict of Nursia and Saint Scholastica of Nursia on the obverse. Benedict, founder of the Benedictine order, is regarded as the patriarch of western monasticism and patron saint of Europe. His twin sister Scholastica founded the Benedictine order and represented the important branch of women's orders. The reverse of the commemorative coin shows a monk at a writing desk. This illustrates that Central European culture was largely shaped by the monasteries.
