This silver coin has been issued by the Banco de Mexico at the Casa de Moneda mint since 1982. What makes it special: It is the first modern silver bullion coin in the world. In 1991, the Mexican mint also introduced the smaller denominations of 1/2 ounce, 1/4 ounce, 1/10 ounce and 1/20 ounce. Another special feature of the silver Libertad is that this silver coin has no minted face value, but it is still legal tender in Mexico. The current value is based on the material value determined daily on the stock exchange and is calculated according to the fine weight of the national currency.
Mexico's coat of arms is depicted on the design side of the silver Mexico Libertad. The value side shows Mexico's winged goddess of victory as a symbol of Mexico's triumph over Spain in the War of Independence.
This coin is available in various vintages.
