The Coin of the Year Award (COTY) is a competition for the coin-producing industry that was founded by the US publishing group Krause Publications and has been held annually since 1984. A jury selects the best coins of a minting year in various categories. The Austrian Mint has won the award for "Best Coin of the Year"!

When Diwali is celebrated in India, it is like Christmas and New Year's Eve combined. The Hindu goddess Lakshmi exudes her magic during this contemplative and exuberant festival of lights. She is enthroned in a lotus blossom and has her hands full. She brings luck and gold! With this coin, you can immerse yourself in the fascinating myths and ancient traditions of the Indian subcontinent.

The coin images

In the center of the value side, Lakshmi sits in a lotus blossom, flanked by elephants. In two of her four hands she also holds lotus blossoms, with the other two she blesses the viewer and offers him pieces of gold. Below her is the glyph निष्क "Nishka", which means a small disk of gold in Sanskrit. - The other side shows Krishna in a regal sitting posture, surrounded by an ornamental band reminiscent of peacock feathers.
