On June 12, 2019, the latest issue of the silver niobium coin series of the Austrian Mint was released. The 2019 niobium coin has "Artificial Intelligence" as its theme. For a long time, mankind has dreamed of becoming the creator of an intelligent being itself. With the rapid advances in computer science and technology, and especially the enormous amounts of data available today, artificial intelligence ("AI") is no longer a fantasy of the future, but already reliably supports us in everyday life and solves individual problems faster and better than humans ever could. Artificial intelligence is still only used for special tasks, and we are still a long way from a superintelligence that is superior to us in all fields. Nevertheless, there are already many ethical questions in dealing with AI, including the big question of how such a superior artificial intelligence will treat humanity in the future.
The reverse shows the head of a humanoid robot in the niobium part, and a processor as the "brain" of the bot, from which conductor tracks extend into the silver ring. On the silver ring at the bottom, as usual, the face value of 25 euros and a digitally appearing inscription "Republic of Austria.
The picture side: On the obverse, the silver ring symbolically depicts milestones and developments related to artificial intelligence. From top left to bottom right: E-health, smart machines, processor development, digitization, data analysis and artificial neural networks. The niobium part features the silhouette of a human in front of a binary code on the right side, and neural synapses reaching into the silver ring on the left side.
