The latest issue of the Austrian Mint's silver niobium coin series was released on June 12, 2019. The theme of the 2019 niobium coin is "Artificial Intelligence". Mankind has long dreamed of becoming the creator of an intelligent being. With the rapid advances in computer science and technology and, above all, the enormous amounts of data available today, artificial intelligence ("AI") is no longer a fantasy of the future, but already reliably supports us in our everyday lives and solves individual problems faster and better than humans ever could. Artificial intelligence is still only used for special tasks and we are still a long way from a super intelligence that is superior to us in all areas. Nevertheless, many ethical questions are already being raised today when dealing with AI, including the big question of how such a superior artificial intelligence will one day treat humanity.
The reverse: the niobium part of the reverse shows the head of a humanoid robot, with a processor as the "brain" of the bot, from which conductors extend into the silver ring. At the bottom of the silver ring, as usual, the face value of 25 euros and a digital-looking inscription "Republic of Austria".
The obverse: The silver ring on the obverse shows symbolic milestones and developments in connection with artificial intelligence. From top left to bottom right: E-health, smart machines, processor development, digitalization, data analysis and artificial neural networks. The niobium part features the silhouette of a human in front of a binary code on the right-hand side and neural synapses on the left-hand side, which extend into the silver ring.
