The most recent epoch in the Earth's history

The 2018 "Anthropocene" niobium coin will be released on June 6, 2018. Like all silver niobium coins from Austria, it is one of the most sought-after coin issues of the year. The Anthropocene is intended to follow the Holocene as the most recent epoch in Earth's history and do justice to the influence of humans on planet Earth. Think of global warming, rising sea levels or environmental pollution.

The value side: The reverse of the silver ring unites creatures from the various geological eras, from ammonites to insects, dinosaurs, sabre-toothed cats and mammoths to humans. The niobium inner part shows human footprints on the globe, symbolizing the footprints that we humans have already left on our planet by 2018.

The obverse: On the niobium inner part, the focus is on mankind. On the silver ring, the problematic influences of mankind on our planet are depicted as a warning. From industrial factories, monocultures and nuclear reactors to the PET01 symbol for plastic. The left-hand side also deals with climate change: Drops of water, ice crystals and a thermometer represent flooding, melting polar ice caps and glaciers and global warming. A withered tree stump, the CO2 symbol and parched earth are further warning symbols.
