Schilling silver coins

Schilling silver coins as an Austrian tradition The silver coin Schilling has a long tradition in Austria and was a popular gift for a long time. It has lost its significance as a normal means of payment since the introduction of the euro in 2002. However, it is still popular as a bullion coin or collector's coin. The 10-schilling coin from 1964, for example, is a rare vintage and therefore particularly interesting for collectors.

Silver coins shilling value

The face value or nominal value can only be exchanged at the Austrian National Bank. This applies to silver coins with a face value of 25, 50, 100 and 500 schillings. The other Schilling silver coins can no longer be exchanged there either. Silver 5- and 10-schilling coins can no longer be exchanged for euros at the OeNB, as their exchange periods have expired. However, 5- and 10-schilling coins made of copper/nickel can be exchanged at the OeNB for an unlimited period of time.

Please note that the silver value is usually higher than the face value. You should bear this in mind if you plan to exchange your coins for euros.

Silver content of the old schilling coins

The fineness of silver coins depends on the face value and the year of minting. This is because the alloy of the silver shillings changed over time:

Buy silver shillings

At Gold &Co we sell silver shilling coins as promotional silver in 5 kg units (single-origin) with differential taxation as well as rolled in coin rolls of 40 to 50 pieces at the best conditions - very close to the silver market price.

Buying silver shilling coins with differential taxation is the cheapest way to buy silver. Calculated per gram, you pay the least for silver here! Or to put it another way: with silver shilling coins you get the most silver for your money.

Austrian silver shillings are also ideal as a crisis currency in addition to gold coins or bars. Collecting silver coins has always been fashionable - especially when the price of gold rose.
