Platinum price development and current price

Our platinum chart shows you the current platinum prices in euros and the development of the platinum price over time. This platinum spot (XPT) reflects the current platinum price on the international commodity markets. Platinum is traded in USD per troy ounce on the major commodity exchanges in New York, Tokyo, London and Zurich.

The most important trading venue for physical platinum is the London Platinum and Palladium Market LPPM, where platinum is traded in the form of good delivery bars. As has been the case with gold and silver for decades, the platinum price is still fixed by the members of the LPPM twice a day at 9:45 and 14:00 London time on each bank trading day at the London Platinum and Palladium Fixing.

Platinum prices in buying & selling

If you would like to buy platinum in Austria or sell platinum in the form of investment metal(platinum coins & platinum bars) or old precious metal(platinum jewelry), the prices of dealers are based on the general price of platinum.

However, the current prices for platinum coins, platinum bars and old platinum differ both when buying and selling platinum, because in addition to the platinum price per troy ounce, production and manufacturing costs as well as smelting and recycling costs must also be factored into the prices.

If you want to buy physical platinum, you must also bear in mind that, unlike investment gold, platinum is subject to VAT. While gold is completely exempt from VAT in Austria and the EU, platinum may be subject to a special form of VAT: Differential taxation. In the case of goods for which VAT has already been paid, the VAT to be paid is not applied to the total price, but only to the difference between the purchase and sales price of the goods, i.e. the dealer's margin. However, it always depends on the respective platinum product whether it can be sold with differential taxation.
