Jacobin cap as a sign of independence

As a former Spanish colony, the South American country of Argentina has a long tradition of gold coins. The goddess of liberty on the coin wears a so-called Jacobin cap. Ever since the Jacobins wore this headgear during the French Revolution, it has become a symbol of independence. Argentina's coat of arms can be seen on the reverse of this historic coin.
