Apart from black holes, neutron stars are the densest objects in the universe, somewhat denser even than atomic nuclei. You can therefore imagine neutron stars as gigantic atomic nuclei. Neutron stars are somewhat heavier than the sun; a teaspoon of neutron star weighs as much as 1000 Cheops pyramids. However, they have a surface area smaller than Vorarlberg.
The extraordinary
In the middle of its disk, a hemisphere curves inwards on one side and outwards on the other: a simplified representation of a neutron star. Its "crust" and "core" are labeled on the value side. "Crab pulsar" is the name of a neutron star that emerged from a supernova in the year 1054. "1,4 M☉" refers to its solar mass, "30rps" to its rotational speed per second. Its radius is given as "r~10km". On the other side, the neutron star bulges outwards, surrounded by a coloured imprint and a stylized representation of its magnetic field.
The coin is sold in a case with a numbered certificate of authenticity. The "Fascination Universe" series presents coins with unconventional and sophisticated shapes.
