The mouse

Following the Lunar Series I (1996 to 2007) and the Lunar Series II (2008 to 2019), the Lunar Series III (2020 to 2031) impresses with a fresh new design and consistently high minting quality.

The term "lunar" comes from the Latin word "luna" (moon). Like the "solar" calendar known in our latitudes, the Chinese lunar calendar belongs to the category of lunisolar calendars - i.e. calendars that are based on the lunar and/or solar cycle. The cycle of the 12 animal signs is used in Chinese astrology, whereby a corresponding animal is assigned to each 12-month cycle of the year.
