The six-part series "Rome on the Danube" brings a breath of fresh air to the ruins of the ancient Roman Empire in what is now Austria. The Virunum coin celebrates the capital of the former Roman province of Norikum.
The obverse of the coin shows Emperor Claudius in profile, in the background a Roman chariot is pulled by two horses. The scene is taken from a tomb relief from Virunum, which can be found today on the wall of the Maria Saal church in the neighboring municipality. The second side was designed by engravers of the Austrian Mint with a Roman basilica, a horse-drawn chariot and a blacksmith making swords.
The coin is sold including beautiful box and certificate of authenticity.
